Forum Post: Dividing an inventory lot into smaller lots?

Does anyone know of a simple way to divide an inventory lot into smaller lots?  Background: Inventory is received with a RoG based on the shipping document, possibly with a reference to the number of bundles for each line, but without individual quantities for each bundle.  The actual counts (measuring Sq. Ft. amounts per bundle) may not happen for days, so holding off on the RoG is not an option.  We were thinking of having the assigned lot numbers (used as raw material for BoM) represent a bundle, instead of simply referring back to a received bulk lot# with multiple bundles lumped together.  However, reality of the customer environment doesn't allow timely data entry sometimes. I suppose we have two options: Assuming the customer's staff can get all the counting for a bulk lot done at once, an inventory adjustment might be the only way to divide into smaller lots (if we keep only one item code, since BoM cannot be used to convert an item into itself).  Adjust a negative amount out of the original lot, and positive amounts in for each of the new smaller lots, with appropriate costs on each line. Go with the bulk received lot# as the input for Production Entry, depleting the lot quantity partially as each bundle is processed. Any other ideas?
