USUALLY rebuild key files is safe. However sometimes you will lose some records in the files if they have been corrupted in which case they are gone already. Rebuild key files does create a backup file so you can always restore the backup if necessary. Always do a rebuild sort files afterwards. In all my years I think I have only seen a couple of times where important records were lost. One was in Job Cost Master Job File and the other was the payroll Earnings/Deductions Master file. In Job Cost we just restored the original file. In payroll we manually recreated the records.
